Likely cause
Standard analogue sticks use potentiometers. Their contacts wear and collect dirt with use, so the reading drifts.

Hall effect sticks read position with magnets and a sensor instead of rubbing contacts, so they don’t wear in the same way and are far less prone to drift.

Slow the drift: keep controllers out of dusty spots, don’t rest them on the sticks, and avoid spraying contact cleaner into the stick. It can wash grime deeper in and damage the sensor.

Controller Repair questions

What causes controller stick drift?
Most controllers use potentiometer-based analogue sticks. Over time the internal contacts wear and pick up dirt, so the stick reports movement when you aren’t touching it. That’s stick drift. Replacing the stick module fixes it.

How long does a stick drift repair take?
Stick drift repairs are often done the same day, sometimes while you wait, depending on how busy the lab is and which controller it is. WhatsApp us to check before you come in.

What are Hall effect sticks, and are they worth it?
Hall effect sticks measure the stick’s position with magnets and a sensor, with no rubbing contacts to wear out. That makes them far less prone to drift. If you play a lot, or your controller has drifted before, they’re a worthwhile upgrade.

Can you fix a PS5 controller that won’t charge or turn on?
Yes. It’s usually the charging port, the battery or a board fault. We test the controller to find which, then repair or replace the faulty part.
