Common Nintendo Switch faults we repair

Not charging / damaged charging port

Symptoms
No charging icon, charging only at an angle, a loose USB-C port, or dead after using a cheap charger or dock.
Likely cause
A worn or broken USB-C port, or a failed charging chip on the board. Poor-quality chargers and docks are a common cause.
What we do
We replace the USB-C port by micro-soldering and test the charging circuit, so the fault doesn’t come straight back.

Joy-Con stick drift

Symptoms
Your character walks on their own, the camera drifts, or menus scroll by themselves.
Likely cause
Wear inside the analogue stick module.
What we do
We replace the stick and test it. On the Switch Lite the sticks are built into the console, so the console itself is opened.

Cracked or faulty screen

Symptoms
Cracked glass, dead touch, lines or no picture.
Likely cause
Drops and pressure damage.
What we do
Screen replacement for Switch, Switch OLED and Switch Lite, tested for display and touch.

Dock or TV mode not working

Symptoms
Works in handheld mode but not on the TV, or charges in the dock but shows no picture.
Likely cause
A fault in the dock, the console’s USB-C port, or its video-output circuit.

Won’t turn on

Symptoms
A black screen even after charging overnight.
Likely cause
A deeply flat battery, a charging-circuit fault or a board fault.

Protect your Switch’s charging port

Charging-port damage is the most common Switch repair we do. Use the original charger and dock, or reputable USB-C Power Delivery chargers. Cheap third-party docks and chargers are a well-known cause of dead charging ports and charging chips.

Don’t play with the cable bent hard against the port, and unplug by the plug, not the cord. For Joy-Con drift and Pro Controller faults, see our controller repairs.

Switch Lite owners: the sticks are built into the console, so stick drift means opening the whole console. It’s a routine repair for us, but don’t try prising it open yourself; the ribbon cables are fragile.

Why won’t my Nintendo Switch charge?
Usually because the USB-C charging port is worn or damaged, or the charging chip on the board has failed, often after using a poor-quality charger or dock. We test the port and the charging circuit, then replace whichever has failed.

Can you fix Joy-Con drift, including on a Switch Lite?
Yes. We replace worn Joy-Con stick modules. On the Switch Lite the sticks are built into the console, so we open the console to replace them. It’s a routine repair.
